Their steps into the limelight have paralleled their strides into the community, building legacies that extend vastly beyond their filmography. The fact that you can only buy the Pixel Tablet with its charging speaker dock pretty much drives home that identity. Android 3.0 Honeycomb was the first version to support large-screen devices, but it was mostly seen as a quick stopgap measure to curb the growing number of tablets modifying an experience that was meant for phones only (looking at you, Samsung and HTC). The release, however, was considered to be so rushed and so bad that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich was released half a year later. Google didn’t seem keen to make its own Android tablets either, be it the old Nexus brand or the short-lived Pixel C, but that’s not to say its own fans haven’t been clamoring for an official Google tablet for years.

That finally happened nearly a year ago with the Pixel Tablet, which painted this large device as something different from an iPad or a Samsung Galaxy Tab. Rather than launch a new Pixel Tablet 2 this year, however, Google is apparently making the rather unorthodox move of relaunching the existing model, and it seems like it will be a mixed bag based on what we’re hearing so far. The Google Pixel Tablet’s aesthetics are simple, homey, and a bit traditional. Unlike the flat and sharp edges of the likes of the current Apple iPads, Google’s design has curved sides and a gentler demeanor. It’s not something you’ll flaunt outdoors but will be perfectly at home inside the house. That’s primarily because Google’s purpose for its tablet isn’t on-the-go productivity or entertainment but as pretty much a portable smart display for controlling your smart devices, making video calls, or playing music.

Exact t-designs over quantum states cannot be distinguished from the uniform probability distribution over all states when using t copies of a state from the probability distribution. A spherical design is a collection of points on the unit sphere for which polynomials of bounded degree can be averaged over to obtain the same value that integrating over surface measure on the sphere gives. Spherical and projective t-designs derive their names from the works of Delsarte, Goethals, and Seidel in the late 1970s, but these objects played earlier roles in several branches of mathematics, including numerical integration and number theory.

More importantly, however, it is rumored to introduce new accessories, namely an official Google stylus as well as a keyboard for the tablet, most likely a keyboard cover like those sold for the Galaxy Tab S9, for example. Unfortunately, there are no leaks on the design that these products will take, but given the design of the official Pixel Tablet Case, we’re expecting something that will match the tablet’s aesthetics as well. This will be the exact same Pixel Tablet that Google is said to be “relaunching” in just two weeks but with a slight twist. The accessories for the tablet are being changed, and this speaker charger will no longer be bundled with the Pixel Tablet by default. Although it’s only the accessory lineup that will change, it also subtly changes the message that the product will be sending.

Of course, the Pixel Tablet has had support for a wide range of styluses implementing the USI 2.0 standard as well as the myriad Bluetooth keyboards in the market. But having Google’s official stamp pretty much sends the message that the Pixel Tablet is also good for creativity and productivity, whether it’s making art, scribbling notes, or typing documents. The keyboard case even makes a case (pun intended) for bringing it out of your home and setting up an ad hoc office in a cafe somewhere. The Pixel Tablet’s hardware could still be up to the task, but more resource-hungry apps could hit a wall easily with this configuration. What is basically changing is that Google will no longer ship the Pixel Tablet with the Charging Speaker Dock, which has important ramifications as far as pricing goes.

While a reboot is unlikely, reruns have kept many households entertained. As you watch the eerie series, you might have questions about the characters, including who is dead, alive (or immortal).

The show wasn’t just a platform for laughs; it was a launching pad for burgeoning talent. LL Cool J came together with a few familiar faces for the adorable, hilarious show that stayed on the air for 5 seasons, and taught us a lot about life through the process. Despite it being off the air for almost 20 years, the cast was very close at the time of filming, but seems to have drifted apart since then. We decided to a take a look back and do some digging on the rest of the cast. Jeffery Wood may have only been in the first few seasons of In the House, but his character, Austin Warren, was a beloved one.

Crystal Palace, a psychic medium, was rescued from demonic possession by Edwin and Charles. Graff can also reveal how the Trump organization worked, Borger said, and even provide a glimpse into Trump's life and speak on the relationships between Trump and his children. Former President Donald Trump on Friday continued to falsely claim he cannot “comment on” or “answer questions” about his New York criminal hush money trial as he railed against the gag order from Judge Juan Merchan. LL Cool J stepped as a charismatic fountain of wisdom, while dynamic characters like Tonia Harris, portrayed by Kim Wayans, added a whole spectrum of color to the narrative. As often occurs in this unforgiving biz, Wayans’s stint was truncated due to contract discrepancies, leaving a Tonia-shaped hole in fans’ hearts. Maia Campbell has led a relatively private life in recent years. In 2000, she lost custody of her daughter due to her refusal to take medication for her bipolar disorder. Thomas Jefferson, who nearly doubled the country’s size with his purchase of the Louisiana Territory, stood for its westward expansion. Theodore Roosevelt, who had overseen the construction of the Panama Canal, was a symbol of economic growth. And Abraham Lincoln was selected for having fought to preserve the nation in the Civil War. Initially, Calvin Coolidge was to write the history of the United States that would be carved on the Entablature, but he and Borglum disagreed on how the history should be worded. Calvin Coolidge died in 1933 before any definite wording was finalized.Gutzon Borglum teamed up with the Hearst newspapers in 1934 to sponsor an essay contest.

Three years later in 1896, he once again left for Europe; this time settling in England. This not-so-secret room isn’t open to the public but has been the subject of much speculation and was even depicted in the National Treasure fictional historical conspiracy movies. Over the next 16 years, Borglum wrangled with the federal government about funding and control of Mount Rushmore—which he never technically completed.

As the sculptor, Borglum, with Robinson’s support, had the artistic freedom to carve what he saw fit. He wanted Mount Rushmore to represent the first 150 years of the nation’s history, and so decided to carve portraits of four key presidents into the granite. The sculptor chose Mount Rushmore in part because it faces southeast for maximum sun exposure.

The shift ended up moving Abraham Lincoln’s head into the area intended for the entablature, which was never added. Similarly, to find solid rock from which to carve Theodore Roosevelt, the workers had to plunge 80 feet back from the original face of the mountain. As we have previously reported, the monument has a dark history of ties to the KKK and an illegal war.

Borglum’s Vision

Albeit a major difficulty, funding was but one obstacle to the completion of Mount Rushmore. The sculptor also faced issues with workers and receiving permission, as well as geological challenges and the impending American involvement in World War II. Los Angeles is home to one of RSM Design’s studios, located at the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley in Sierra Madre.

On July 4, 1971, Burkett donated a bronze plaque of his award-winning essay, written in 1934 while attending Omaha University Law School. A cube of granite was left in each to represent the reflection highlight thereby making the appearance of the eyes more realistic.

Picture of the Day: Mount Rushmore as Originally Planned

That's all to say, though, that although there aren't tunnels crisscrossing behind the heads of the presidents on Mount Rushmore, there is one, incomplete chamber hiding behind Abraham Lincoln's head. According to the National Parks Service, (and a prior Snopes fact check), the original models for Mount Rushmore were grandiose and ambitious, far beyond what exists today. Sculptor Gutzon Borglum's final designs planned for all four presidents to be depicted from the waist up. The monument was the brainchild of a South Dakota historian named Doane Robinson, who was looking for a way to attract more tourists to his state.

He then went on to shoot the film’s violent final chase scene on a scaled replica so realistic that viewers believed it was filmed at Mount Rushmore. Department of the Interior cried foul, and ultimately asked Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to remove the credit line at the end of the movie thanking them for their cooperation. An aerial view of Mount Rushmore taken in 1967 shows the four presidential faces, the surrounding Black Hills, and its jumbo parking lot. Both the parking lot and the parking garage which replaced it in the 1990s drew criticism for the clearing of land required to build them; the current $5 fee to park in the garage isn’t popular with tourists either. In the late 1800s, Euro-American settlers began pushing into the Black Hills, igniting a war with the indigenous population. The U.S. government signed the Treaty of Fort Laramie in 1868, giving the Lakota exclusive use of the Black Hills.

Borglum's two years in Paris were spent studying art at the Julien Academy and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He had successful showings at major Paris salons and developed some valuable friendships, including a close relationship with the great French sculptor, Auguste Rodin, who carved The Thinker. After leaving France, Borglum spent a year in Spain and then returned to California.

In 1927, a white man from Connecticut traveled to the Black Hills to drill a hole in the ground near the tops of Mount Rushmore, where four white men’s faces would later be carved. An artist was commissioned to create a memorial for the Sioux nation to counterbalance the white faces of Rushmore. The Crazy Horse monument has elicited criticism and dissent from its opponents. The Black Hills were the location of a proposed massive monument proposed by Doane Robinson, South Dakota’s state historian, in 1923. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt were chosen to be part of the sculpture.

The carving was the idea of Doane Robinson, a historian for the state of South Dakota. Think of it as a secondary National Archives to that in Washington, D.C. — Borglum wanted to feature important American documents, busts of other famous Americans and records of American contributions to history. The National Parks Service says that the initial 70-foot tunnel for the Hall of Records was blasted into the rock in 1938, but construction stopped in July 1939 when Congress ordered Borglum to focus solely on the sculpture. On October 4, 1927, sculpting begins on the face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills National Forest of South Dakota. It would take another 12 years for the granite images of four of America’s most revered presidents—George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt—to be completed.

Exceptional local flavors thus converge within the historic rooms where Georgia's leaders once dined centuries ago. Dishes like the creamy shrimp and grits or silky she-crab soup allow diners to savor two of the Lowcountry’s quintessential flavors. Today diners bask in that historic ambiance carefully recaptured by the Strongs. With a vision to revive the mansion to its former elegance, the Strongs commissioned meticulous restorations of the original floorplan, doors, windows, and interior details.

The Olde Pink House is serving up southern charm and delicious food.

During Clay's tenure as mayor of Savannah from 1805 to 1806, he and his family took up residence in the mansion. As Savannah progressed into the 19th century, the stately Habersham house passed into the hands of prominent political leader Joseph Clay. Between the food, decor, and architecture, the senses pick up on the echoes of Georgian and antebellum life that still linger within the Olde Pink House.

SAVANNAH'S FAVORITE ADDRESS FOR LOWCOUNTRY CUISINE

The war had taken its toll on Savannah, so operating the old house as a hotel provided much needed accommodations. For over two centuries, the mansion has welcomed Savannah's elite through its doors, from the lavish parties of Habersham's era to the distinguished gentlemen's club operated out of the house in the 19th century. Standing stately in Reynolds Square, the Olde Pink House restaurant inhabits one of Savannah's finest examples of Georgian-style architecture.

Why The Olde Pink House is Pink

Arched windows flanked by columns, iron-railed balconies, and a signature white ornamental iron fence cast in Savannah all exuded an air of refinement. In exploring the history of the Olde Pink House, we peel back the layers of this Southern icon to reveal its origins, illustrious inhabitants, and evolving identity across centuries at the heart of Savannah. The Olde Pink House (also known as The Pink House and, formerly, Habersham House) is a restaurant and tavern in Savannah, Georgia, United States. Located on Abercorn Street, in the northwestern trust lot of Reynolds Square, the building dates from 1771.[4] It is bounded by East Bryan Street to the north, Abercorn Street to the east and East Saint Julian Street to the south.

The striking pink facade also rendered the mansion instantly recognizable in the local landscape, with the color chosen as a proud nod to Habersham's English heritage. We specialize in memorable dining experiences ranging from a quaint table for 2 in the Planters Tavern "Wine Vault", to a party of 400 guests reserving the entire mansion. When guests savor the cuisine, they take part in the continuing story of Southern food that fills this landmark with legacy. Crisp fried green tomatoes offer another taste of regional delicacies transformed by the Olde Pink House into appetizing works of art. The menu draws deeply from traditions and recipes perfected in local kitchens across generations. During this period, the mansion was less a family home or even hotel—it now bustled daily with patrons conducting business transactions and employees obediently working in their offices.

Built in 1777 for James Habersham Jr., the Olde Pink House was originally a mansion whose red bricks would bleed into the white plaster, turning the home pink. Today, it is a restaurant and tavern serving Savannah tourists from around the world. The appropriately-named Olde Pink House is easy to find, with its iconic shade of pink, right across from Reynolds Square. Adjacent to our historic Savannah hotel is The Olde Pink House, one of Savannah’s most popular restaurants. The food draws from regional tradition, but underneath the surface of fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits lies a storied landmark that has watched over Savannah from Reynolds Square for nearly 250 years.

This year, the dinner was graced by the luminous presence of stars such as Scarlett Johansson, Molly Ringwald, Lynda Carter and Chris Pine, who brought Hollywood glamour to the politically charged atmosphere of Washington. You'll find the portions to be large, the pricing to be fair, and the service to be great. The Olde Pink House is a large restaurant that recently underwent a massive renovation. Habersham had already amassed substantial wealth as a planter by the time he hired the architect William Jay to design his new Savannah estate. Savannah overflows with storied landmarks that transport visitors back through the ages. An almost-identical house was built in 1928[20] at 102 East Gaston Street,[21] just beyond the northeastern corner of Forsyth Park. With their low ceilings, fireplaces, and limited seating, they resemble the type of formal but cozy spaces where Georgia's early aristocracy would have entertained friends for elaborate dinners. The basement Planters Tavern transports guests back to 1855, when it first opened as an underground bar and billiards hall frequented by Savannah's gentlemen. Patrons dine immersed in the architecture and atmosphere of 18th century Savannah brought to life by one of its earliest leading citizens. When completed, the Habersham house stood among the grandest residences in Savannah.

The Habersham-Clay mansion led a utilitarian existence for many decades following Savannah's antebellum era. As the Civil War plunged the nation into chaos, the grand house transitioned into more practical uses aligned with tumultuous times. Joseph's wife Mary was known as a consummate hostess who masterfully planned lavish dinners, musical evenings, and holiday balls in the mansion's spaces. Guests delighted in dancing the evening away in the grand first floor ballroom or discussing politics and business in the dining room over sumptuous meals.

The seafood choices connect back to Savannah's traditions as a port city that has long drawn bounty from the Atlantic. When renovations were complete, the Habersham-Clay house had emerged as the Olde Pink House restaurant. By the early 20th century, the aging but still-stately former Habersham mansion had passed through many uses and owners. The mansion followed this trajectory when purchased in the 1870s by a consortium establishing a bank. The house glittered with candlelight while well-dressed gentlemen and ladies conversed over cards or music. The parties perfectly reflected the sophistication and gentility of Savannah's elite in that era.

The Olde Pink House is one of Savannah’s finest dining establishments, offering new Southern cuisine in a sophisticated, yet casual setting. The Olde Pink House is known for specialties like Grilled Pork Tenderloin with Bourbon Molasses, Crispy Scored Flounder with Apricot Shallot Sauce, and Corn Bread Fried Oysters. The stately mansion surely felt livelier during the Clay's residency than in its previous incarnation as a more staid family estate for James Habersham Jr.

The Olde Pink House’s pink color isn’t a new development – it’s been part of the restaurant’s signature décor for almost 100 years. But the story behind the color is more elaborate than just a standard paint job, so the story can't be explained without diving into the restaurant's history. Through painstaking technique and time-honored family wisdom, the Olde Pink House kitchen channels history onto every plate. Stepping into the Olde Pink House today, patrons can embark on a culinary journey through Savannah's regional fare thanks to the restaurant’s meticulous attention to heritage Southern cuisine. The Olde Pink House transports modern patrons back through centuries of memories made within those walls. If only the walls could speak of Habersham's grand parties, the Clays' lively gatherings, or the bustle of Victorian bank tellers - all long gone but not forgotten.

It's tucked away and may not be brought to your attention by the Olde Pink House staff. You will need to request to sit in the Tavern which does not accept reservations. At the Tavern, you'll find a nightly piano player playing tunes of today and yesterday. Servants smoothly attended to every guest's needs and Mary Clay ensured the food and wine were of the finest quality. News of the Clays' parties often appeared in Savannah's society pages, further elevating the family's social status.

Just as in 1771, the Olde Pink House remains a destination for those who seek to experience Georgian Savannah's splendor. Today, diners can still experience that refined grace as they step inside the Olde Pink House restaurant and enjoy Southern cuisine in spaces that have hosted Savannah society since the city's settlement. Upstairs you'll find a formal dining room, a large ballroom, and a small bar area to enjoy your time with family and friends. On the side of the restaurant, you'll find sidewalk seating as well as another bar.

Through meticulous restoration and devotion to regional cuisine, the restaurant has revived this aristocratic dwelling, allowing modern diners and history aficionados alike to step inside Savannah’s gilded past. From the mansion, tea parlor and haunted restaurant, the Olde Pink House has accrued a long and varied history, making it one of Savannah’s premier landmarks in the city.

This practical chapter, though far removed from the structure's original purpose, became an important part of the historic mansion's story and connection to Savannah's past. Their tenure left an indelible mark during an important transitional period as Savannah evolved from provincial colony to refined American city. Footsteps, voices, and moving objects remind visitors that while the Olde Pink House offers a glimpse into the past, some aspects of its bygone eras may continue to inhabit the present day.

Its brick walls, burled wood accents, and dim atmosphere evoke 19th century revelry, likely not so different from when city leaders and planners would discuss business over cards and whiskey. With its pink stucco facade and white ornamental ironwork, the mansion emanates the elegance of 18th century life when it was first erected in 1771 for James Habersham Jr. The legacy of James Habersham is still honored through the surviving Habersham house, now the Olde Pink House restaurant. Over 250 years later, the mansion remains one of the premier illustrations of Georgian architecture in Savannah. The ornate brick and pink stucco edifice with its symmetrical layout exemplified the Georgian style then fashionable throughout the colonies.

Jordan Pond Acadia National Park Jordan Pond House

jordan pond house

It takes some planning to maximize the amount of images that I can capture before the quality of light changes. If I have begun my shooting on the East coast, I know that I still have some time to get to Jordan Pond because of the mountains between the East coast and Jordan Pond that creates a shadow. It adds to the time before the sunlight bursts above the treetops.

The Shore Trail - Hiking

Jordan Pond House is located on the picturesque southern end of Jordan Pond. It has been a scenic, recreational, and dining destination on Mount Desert Island since the nineteenth century. The house serves tea and popovers, as it has since the 1890s, in addition to other dining options. For most park visitors, afternoon tea on the lawn at Jordan Pond House remains a popular tradition.

Park Highlights

This means it takes longer for the morning sunlight to reach the pond. This allows a more time if you happen to be shooting along the eastern coast of Mount Desert Island. Later in the afternoon, the pond's location next to the mountains creates the opposite situation. The pond will be in shadow sooner as the sun dips behind the mountain to the west. Learn the history behind Rockefeller's planning and construction of the famous carriage road system. Jordan Pond House Restaurant offers indoor seating in the birch bark dining room or outdoor seating on the lawn overlooking Jordan Pond.

Park History

The water is exceptionally clear with an average visibility depth of 46 feet (14 m) but this has been measured as high as 60 feet (18 m), the most ever recorded in the State of Maine. However, non motor boats such as canoes and kayaks are permitted. The kayak and canoe launch site for this is via the Jordan Pond North parking lot, a short distance from the restaurant.

Life at the Old Trout Farm

The Jordan Pond House landscape is a 42-acre site situated on the southern end of Jordan Pond, an inland lake bound by Penobscot Mountain, Pemetic Mountain, and two rounded mountains called The Bubbles. The landscape is part of Acadia National Park on the eastern coast of Maine. The Jordan Pond House site has been a scenic, recreational, and dining destination since the early nineteenth century. The current Jordan Pond House, which dates to 1982, is a replacement of the original 1847 house.

The McIntire's ran the restaurant from 1895 to around the 1940s when they retired. John D. Rockefeller Jr. purchased the property and donated it to the National Park Service. The restaurant was a great addition to the park and Rockefeller's Carriage Roads. Jordan Pond House in Acadia National Park is the perfect place to enjoy a popover with a great view. There is a reason this restaurant has been running for over 100 years. The current building was constructed through the fundraising efforts of the local, non-profit Island Foundation.

They eventually built the Jordan Pond House in 1847 and planted a small apple orchard. In 1895, Thomas McIntire took over the business and eventually bought the entire property. McIntire maintained a highly manicured lawn, incorporated a series of flower beds and foundation plantings, and cleared vegetation within the lawn area allowing for uninterrupted views to the Bubbles. In addition, the landscape included vegetable gardens and an orchard.

The landscape is significant in areas of conservation, entertainment and recreation, and landscape architecture. The Jordan Pond House landscape has been a scenic, recreational, and dining destination since the early nineteenth century. The building is framed by ornamental plantings, Jordan Pond, and the surrounding mountains of what is now Acadia National Park. 45 miles of historic carriage roads cross the park and provide recreation opportunities free of automobiles. Toward the end of the 19th century, the location became a popular recreational area for summer vacationers. As a result, the Jordan Pond House was turned into a small restaurant.

It re-opened in 1982 and continues the traditions started more than a century ago. The roads include 17 stone bridges, 16 of which were financed by Rockefeller. The bridges are steel reinforced concrete, finished with stone in order to have a rustic, 19th century appearance.

To protect the park’s extraordinary biological diversity and its most valued natural and cultural resources. To maintain ongoing and updated information of said cultural and natural history pertaining to all aspects of the Museum and House. To assist financially through fundraising activities in accomplishing the above objectives and purposes. There are a variety of photographers who offer photography workshops in Acadia National Park during the year, especially during the autumn season. Images with the Bubbles in the distance have become classics that instantly convey the location. This is unique in that the pond sits between two mountains on the eastern and western sides.

‘The first popovers and tea were served here by Mr. and Mrs. ‘Thomas and Nellie McIntire around 1895. They were responsible for the character and atmosphere of the original Jordan Pond House, with its birch bark dining rooms and massive fieldstone fireplaces. Probably her largest work of art to date is her home, the historic Trout Farm, located centrally in the Santa Ynez Valley. Since buying the property in 1991, she has restored the house—built by the Hanley family in 1886—enlarged rooms and brought the 1940s-era trout pond back to sparkling life. In 1839, George and John Jordan acquired the property and ran a sawmill business, harvesting timber from the surrounding hillsides.

In the new kitchen, what looks like a country cupboard beneath the bar holds a dedicated icemaker, while an indoor barbecue nestles in a “cabinet” of rock and concrete. In the shower, the image of a cowboy fishing from a rock amid swaying reeds plays out in river rock and colorful bits of tile. Wallpaper leaves and a genuine tree trunk set into one corner complete the idyll. To create a natural surface on the kitchen floor, Alden mingled fractured shell tile with river rock. When Karen asked for a concrete sink with a trout motif, Alden went one better, carving fins and tail into the wooden counter and lining the sink with a mosaic of flowing water.

The first time she saw a crew shooting a television commercial, the proverbial bolt of lightning struck. Everywhere, the earth tones of rich wood glow, and the eye catches on some cowboy- or trout-related treasure from the past. There is a profusion of spice boxes, tin signs, archaic utensils, leatherwork, vintage tack, framed photographs and fat bouquets of flowers. Throughout the old farmhouse, Karen and Jon have created a décor reminiscent of a bygone era, yet with modern conveniences cleverly integrated.
